British Flower Week

In order to raise popular awareness of British Flowers, New Covent Garden Flower Market has recently devoted a week to featuring flowers and foliage arranged by top British floral designers. Day 1: Paul Thomas of Mayfair used his favourites, sweet peas. (see above) Day 2: Rebel Rebel (Athena Duncan and Mairead Curtin) created displays using delphiniums. Day 3: Pinstripes & Paeonies used fragrant stocks. Day 4: Florist by Royal Appointment (and the man behind the flowers at the Royal Wedding) Shane Connolly used British foliage. Day 5: Vic Brotherson of Scarlet & Violet displaying her favourites, paeonies. One of the most attractive aspects of using British flowers and foliage is that they are seasonal. This gives arrangements made using them a natural beauty that uniform imported flowers sometimes lack. If you are planning a wedding using British flowers, for instance, start with a colour scheme in mind, rather than a wish-list of particular flowers, as the availability may be dependent on the weather.
