During 2014, the average household in the UK spent £2.80 a week on gardening, garden equipment and plants. The Office of National Statistics figures show the lowest 10% of earners spent £1 a week on average, while the top 10% spent an average £6.30 a week. In comparison households spent an average of: £4.40 on delivered takeaways £4.30 on pet food £3.60 on hairdressing £3.40 on cigarettes £2.90 on gambling £2.40 on chicken, £1.90 on chocolate. The average weekly spend per household on weekly recreation and activity was £68.80. With regional variations ranging from £76.30 a week in the South East being the highest and the lowest average spend was £56.50 in Northern Ireland.
