Prettiest Rose Competition 2020

Following the launch of the 2020 Rose Festival, we are now pleased to announce the start of the 2020 Prettiest Rose Competition. In previous years, this competition has been run exclusively through garden centres across the UK. However, due to the current situation, The Sun, in partnership with Whartons Roses, have expanded the entry categories so that even if you can't get to a garden centre, you can still take part and be in with a chance of your rose winning the coveted title "Prettiest Rose".

So, how do I enter?

There are 4 different ways to enter the Prettiest Rose competition:

Garden Centre Entry

You can enter though a garden centre. A limited number of garden centres are still running their own Prettiest Rose Competitions and then submitting their winner in the nation competition. Get in touch with your local centre to find out if they are taking part this year. Anyone working for a garden centre who is looking for entry criteria or wishes to submit their entry should Click Here Competition Closed.

Individual Entry

You can enter your rose picture yourself by submitting it directly to us. This so that anyone who cannot enter through their local garden centre is still table to take part. Entries from garden centres and individual entries will be judged together to give everybody a fair chance. If you would like to see the entry criteria or if you would like to submit your image Click Here Competition Closed

Virtual Rose Show Entry

This is a new category and is designed for exhibitors (both amateur and professional) who would normally enter in a local or even national gardening / flower show. This category will be judged to the highest standard. If you would like to see the entry criteria or if you would like to submit your image Click Here Competition Closed

We strongly recommend looking at the entry criteria for the category you wish to enter before submitting a picture.

Prizes

Prizes for the Prettiest Rose are National Garden Gift Vouchers

  • A voucher to the value of £500 will be awarded to the winner (first place).
  • A voucher to the value of £300 will be awarded to the runner up (second place).
  • A voucher to the value of £200 will be awarded for third place.

Children's Prettiest Rose Drawing Competition

The Children's Prettiest Rose Drawing Competition, in partnership with Dobbies, is open to children across the UK and split into three age categories: up to age 6, age 7-10 and age 10 and up. All you have to do is draw a pretty picture of a rose and send it to us. The winners will be chosen by the Sun Gardening team, and editor and television broadcaster, Peter Seabrook. There will be three winners in each category, each winning a £25 Dobbies' voucher, with the aim of inspiring a young generation of gardeners.
