Sweet peas

Last month we recommended schools chitted sweet pea seeds on damp kitchen paper in recycled ice cream containers. (above) Given this treatment roots were showing in a week or so in the warm and could be sown in deep pots of Universal Potting Compost. We will be keeping some in their pots for early spring planting and also planting some out this month, watch this space. The Essex school which sowed chitted seeds just before half term already have seedlings well up and producing their first leaves. There is still time to chit and sow seeds.
