Yes, you can if you wait at least a year. Dig up the old canes and wait for any suckers or seedlings to emerge next spring, spray these with Neudorff Superfast, Long lasting Weedkiller or Westland Resolva 24H Weedkiller. Dig in lots of well-rotted organic matter and replant with new canes next autumn. You could also treat the roots with Rootgrow at planting time.
