Why do I get loads of upright shoots on my apple trees and no fruit?
This is usually the result of only pruning your trees in the winter. Pruning at that time of year is used to promote growth and form a framework of branches, but can also produce lots of vigorous water shoots. To encourage more fruit and less growth prune your trees in mid to late summer to help the trees produce fruit bearing shoots.
