The RHS have announced that their shows at Cardiff and Chatsworth in 2021 are cancelled already, as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus.
While this may seem premature and will undoubtedly cause great disappointment to potential visitors, it is a pragmatic decision taken in light of losses to the charity this year that may be as high as £18m. A slimming-down of the larger RHS shows was fairly inevitable, especially the least profitable ones, and there may be more to come although they have stated that plans are in place for Chelsea, Hampton Court and Tatton to go ahead. Making use of the five RHS Gardens for smaller-scale shows will make much more sense going forward and will mean visitors can shorten their travel distances.
As we enter the “new normal” we can expect more changes, some more welcome than others, and it will be interesting to see how things progress.
