Also known as red lily beetle, the adult beetles have bright red backs with black legs and heads and are about 8mm long. The juvenile beetles are reddish-brown with black heads 6-8mm long, often covered in their own wet black excrement.
The grubs graze on the underside of leaves, also on petals, stems and seed pods. Adults often create rounded holes in the leaves as well as feeding on petals and seed pods. Although the adults may be found on other plants, lilies and fritillaries are the only plants on which eggs are laid and the grubs develop.
Now you know what the problem is, and the damage it is doing, don't let your plant suffer.
