Homebase Gifts Magic of Christmas to People in Need

In aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, this festive season Homebase is donating one thousand real Christmas trees to those supporting people living with cancer across the UK

There are 3 million* people living with cancer in the UK, and almost two in three people (64%**) have close family or friends living with cancer or have personally been diagnosed with cancer. This Christmas, Homebase is giving a helping hand to those supporting people living with cancer by donating 1,000 real Christmas trees in aid of its long-term charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support.

Homebase is calling for everyone to nominate a friend, family member or loved one in the UK who is supporting someone affected by cancer this Christmas. Whether they are caring for a loved one or supporting those impacted by cancer, Homebase want to help bring some extra much-needed joy to the festive period.

Emma Cooke, Head of Communications and Community at Homebase says: “Through our long standing partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, we’re dedicated to bringing home comforts to those affected by cancer. Since 2019, we’ve donated almost £400,000 and funded over 1,200 home related grants to make those living with cancer more comfortable in their homes. As part of this, we’re really proud to be delivering some moments of festive joy to the people giving much needed support this Christmas.

“Having a real Christmas tree in the home isn’t something that everyone can afford, especially with the added financial impact of caring for someone who is living with cancer. Through our Communi-trees campaign we’re hoping to make a small difference that will deliver a little extra festive sparkle.”

The first 1,000 people nominated will receive a real, 6ft Nordman Fir, Norway Spruce or a Fraser Fir Christmas tree from Homebase.

Flo McMullen, Macmillan Corporate Partnerships Manager says: “We’re so grateful for the generosity of Homebase, donating 1,000 real trees this Christmas and hope that everyone gets nominating people they know who work, volunteer or care for someone living with cancer. For many people putting up a Christmas tree and decorating their home marks the start of festivities and receiving this gift is a great way to say thank you to all the unsung heroes who support people living with cancer throughout the year.

“This is all in addition to the thousands of pounds Homebase raises for Macmillan Cancer Support every year to fund grants for people struggling with the cost of living after a cancer diagnosis and we are delighted to be working together in this way.”

To nominate someone you know, head to homebase.co.uk/about-us/growing-responsibly from 6th November.
