Correctly known as nematodes, these are small (often microscopic) thread-like organisms which may live inside the plant.
Different plants will show different symptoms, such as stunted growth and a dwarfed appearance due to eelworms feeding on buds. Leaves are deformed, distorted and often with yellowed blotches later turning brown then black between the veins, and eventually dying. Flowers (when they form) are usually distorted and smaller than normal with abnormal streaks and markings.
Now you know what the problem is, and the damage it is doing, don't let your plant suffer.
