How I can get rid of the tiny flies in my house plants compost?

Our Advice:

These are sciarid flies, also known as fungus gnats. The adults are annoying but relatively harmless, but the grubs feed on the young plant roots and can cause serious damage. The best controls are to water the pots with PY Insecticide from Vitax or if you would rather not use chemicals, use a Plant Flycatcher sticky trap from Neudorff.
