Amateur Gardening has been granted a reprieve from cancellation following its acquisition by Kelsey Media, stepping in to take over from the previous owners, Future Publishing.
The UK's longest running gardening magazine had stated on the 11th of September that it was to cease publication, with its final issue slated for release on the 14th of October. Editor Garry Coward-Williams had attributed this decision to a continued increase in costs related to paper, printing, and the inclusion of seed packets with each issue.
However, news of a change in ownership from Marketforce stated that the magazine was not, in fact, going to cease but was set to transition to Kelsey Media starting from issue 42, scheduled to go on sale on the 14th of November 2023.
According to data from the National Title File, there will still be some disruptions for both retail outlets and readers. For one month, starting from the 15th of October, there will be no new issues of the weekly magazine. To bridge this gap, the on-sale period of the 14th of October edition has been extended, allowing it to remain available until Kelsey Media's inaugural issue as publisher on the 14th of November.
Additionally, the cover price is set to undergo a price rise, from £2.20 to £3.50. The magazine's publication frequency will also see a change, shifting from a weekly release to a fortnightly schedule once it resumes printing.
