Ryobi OHT1845 18V ONE+ Cordless 45cm Hedge Trimmer Review

Rating: 4.8 out 5 (from 711 reviews)

This hedge trimmer features a 45cm (18") diamond-ground blade that can cut cleanly through stems up to 18mm (0.7") in diameter. It operates on cordless battery power, making it convenient to use without the risks associated with a mains cable or petrol. It is also lightweight, weighing in at 2.5kg without the battery, and compact in size, making it suitable for general hedge trimming, sculpting hedges, and maintaining shrubbery. The over-mould and wraparound front handle of the hedge trimmer provide increased user comfort and manoeuvrability, even during long periods of use. Additionally, it is part of the Ryobi One+ system, which features over 100 tools that are all powered by a single battery.

What users think:

Users have reported that the blades on this hedge trimmer are sharp and efficient, allowing for clean cuts on leaves and stems. It is particularly effective at trimming small and sappy green items. Additionally, many have praised its affordability, as it offers great value for money. However, some users have noted that the tool is too balanced towards the blade end, making it more difficult to use. Additionally, it lacks the power of a petrol tool, which could make it less effective for larger, tougher hedges. Some users have also expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the plastic sleeve that covers the blade, noting that it feels cheap and flimsy.

Overall, this hedge trimmer seems to be a solid choice for those looking for an affordable option for basic hedge trimming and maintenance. However, users should be aware of its limitations, particularly in terms of power and balance.

Direct quotes from owners:

Only problem i encountered is that he plastic sleeve that covers the blade is too cheap , its thin and pliable and needs to be stiff , so that it slides on and off easily Other than that is does exactly what i wanted and all the batteries fit

It's a very rare thing for me not to like a Ryobi item. But, I'm a short girl. This hedgetrimmer doesn’t have the reach I need to cut the tops of wide hedges or ones at shoulder height. It is also balanced towards the blade end and just isn’t as goid[sic] as my longer Ryobi hedgetrimmer. Odd really.

I had the previous model for several years. Eventually the handle plastic gave so I replaced it with the current incarnation. Better than the previous one but lacks the power of a petrol tool. Good for light hedge trimming

Price: £77.98
