How and when should I prune my standard roses

Our Advice:

Where a bush rose is grafted on to a rootstock stem to form a standard, prune in late-winter or early-spring. Trim the head of the standard as you would any bush rose of the same type and feed the plant after pruning. Always remove any shoots (suckers) which grow on the stem below the head of the standard as soon as they appear.
