Some of my plum branches have broken, what can I do?
Cut back any broken branches as soon as possible, ideally cutting to a natural fork or side branch. Plums can be heavy croppers, often leading to branches breaking under the weight of fruit, especially after heavy summer downpours. Fruit thinning by removing 25-30% in mid-summer can help to prevent structural damage to the trees.
